MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To take responsibility for the delivery of the Sales & Profit Budget in your area operating within all/either the Distribution & Specification Channels. Responsible for the sale of products/brands from the Company’s range that are particularly appropriate to these customers. The delivery of your objectives will be reliant on owning the process of specification through to order together with a close working relationship with your project specific colleagues

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Fully understand the customer base in your region, specifically: Distribution, Local Government, House builders and the Contractors/ Installers. Influencers that operate within these sectors as appropriate.
2.Fully understand the drivers within your customer base such as Decent Homes.
3.Understand the need to identify different Sales strategies for different Product Groups.
4.Develop relationships with the key personnel within your customer base at the right level.
5.Fully utilise and contribute to the market intelligence within the business in order to open up business opportunities, especially Focal Research and Salesnet.
6.Understand at all times where you are/need to be to achieve Sales targets.
7.Understand the need to continually increase business knowledge and learn new skills through a combination of training and personal development. Work in an integrated manner with key colleagues, specifically the Project Sales Team, Marketing Management and Commercial Management.
8.Contribute to the ongoing development of the Sales Strategy, specifically New Products, New Market Opportunities and Marketing Campaigns.
9.Ensure that VA locally owns the Specification Process from initial specification to order placement by Distributor.
10.Provide, on a weekly basis, a plan of calls/appointments to manager via e-mail, and advise if any changes are necessary during the week, keeping them informed at all times.

11.Follow Company Procedure regarding all Administrative aspects of the role.

Reports to the Regional Director.

1.3 KEY TASKS TO BE COMPLETED BY THE JOB HOLDER
To achieve and exceed budgeted targets relating to margin, sales, costs, EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax), stock levels, and debtors.
To actively work at developing and broadening the customer base at the branch (‘A’ customers), and to be aware of ends and opportunities in the marketplace – including the activities of competitors.
To lead, motivate, train and coach the branch team so that they can provide the highest possible levels of both service quality to our customers and performance for the company.
To organise and use the resources available at the branch (e.g. computerised information, stock, vehicles, systems, etc.) in a manner which optimises the company’s investment, enhances the service to our customers and is in line with the mission, vision and values of the company.
To ensure compliance with statutory legislation (e.g. health and safety regulations), company and branch procedures, appropriate Operational Standards, and authority limits.

2.0 DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSON
2.1 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Has previous supervisory experience
Ideally, has external sales experience
Has worked for at least 2 years in a customer service environment
Ideally, has knowledge of contracting, commercial and industrial electrical practices and products
2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION LEVEL
Numerate and literate
Has a full, clean driving licence
Has at least 5 passes (at A to D level) at GCSE, including Maths and English, or the equivalent NVQ/s

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The effective management of a defined geographical area with the objective of achieving sales targets on a profitable basis within the framework laid down by Company policy. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 1. Optimise sales of the Company’s portfolio.   2. To acquire full knowledge of the Company’s products and ancillary equipment and their application. 3. To ensure full awareness of the Company’s marketing policy and to understand its objectives and the reasons thereof.    4. To acquire the fullest possible knowledge, both from a commercial and geographical; point of view of the territory covered.    5. To ensure the best possible support from the HVAC trade for our marketing effort, including adequate stocking of our equipment and sales literature and the best use of display material and other sales aids.    6. To seek opportunities as frequently as possible to demonstrate our equipment and to emphasise its high quality and generally to educate Specifiers as to the advantages of the equipment.    7. Produce regular reports covering sales achievement, competitor activity  and general business conditions and complete all administration necessary to support sales and marketing objectives and provide accurate and up-to-date information.   8.  To acquire a good technical ability to specify normal installations and advise the HVAC sector.  9. To report on any planned future development within the territory covered.   10.  To participate in forward planning by preparing sales budgets and when possible, offering constructive suggestions for improving existing products or methods of sale.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

Previous selling experience, preferably within the HVAC, MECHANICAL or allied industries highly advantageous.  Professional sales and presentation skills and in-depth knowledge of use of  sales techniques, coupled with a high degree of self-initiative.  The ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and to develop  sound working relationships essential.  The ability to plan daily, weekly and monthly activities, aimed at avoiding  excessive travelling time and lengthy individual calls.  Practical aptitude and the ability to understand and interpret technical  data.  Must be conversant with architectural drawings, plans and construction terminology.   Good standard of education with a good command of the English language, both written and oral.  Outgoing and well groomed. Self motivated and self disciplined.  The ability to work on own and without supervision.

Main duties
1. To promote and sell Company product by way of sales and technical calls to wholesale distributors, electrical contractors, design build consultancies, local authorities, architects, or any other appropriate body.
2. To submit a weekly call plan two weeks in advance to your Regional Sales Manager followed by a report of such calls to be logged on the first working day of the following week.
3. To maintain a fair rate of contact with all customers, and allocate appropriate levels of time to ensure that all calls are covered to an appropriate level.
4. To undertake basic lighting design, with records as required on the appropriate Project & quotation sheets to be logged on the first working day of the following week.
5. To attend sites when customers have technical problems on our products and carry appropriate levels of technical assistance.
6. Maintain a good working & technical knowledge of all products either manufactured or factored by the Company.
7. Comply with regional and head office requests for data and information, and ensure that all information regarding customer stability is fed back to management.

Additional duties
Constantly be aware of alterations in working practices regarding lighting schemes and those aspects of the building and electrical industries that may affect lighting systems.
